Civil Rights

"Today, we are standing up for the liberties of same-sex couples by making clear that they will receive the same rights, responsibilities — and respect — under New Hampshire law."

"Why is it that as a culture we are more comfortable seeing two men holding guns than holding hands?"

I don't think this is the same fight as civil rights for black Americans. The gay battle is trying to overcome deep-seated religious and discriminatory prejudice, but they have in no way had to fight racism, sexism, slavery, social Darwinism, and segregation in the same way blacks have. Same sorts of arguments, maybe, and a similar sort of uphill struggle against close-mindedness for equality, but not the same battle.

Love the post. What I love more, though, is how...multi-dimensional you are, though I think that doesn't do you justice. I mean, you can do a post on the most yummy men in the world and you can also, simultaneously, talk about gay rights with equal elan. I'm so PROUD to know someone like you!!

I particularly liked the quotes about Love not being about gender, and the one from the march to repeal proposition 8. Good finds, both.

And congrats on your 400th!

Aw shucks. Look, you made me *blush!* ;-)

My favourite quote is "love is gender-blind," but my mantra is: "gay, straight, black, white; MARRIAGE IS A CIVIL RIGHT." It's so true.

Anyway, I like the song you have in your sidebar. Haha, when I saw Lily Allen in concert (NYAH NYAH!!) she introduced the song with a funny story that you know what? I'll actually never tell you.

Why and how are you even still awake? I've said it before, I'll say it again: you're an insane person. I know you like to check my blog incessantly to see if I've updated but this is a little crazy. XD

DIE A THOUSAND HORRIBLE DEATHS, JACQUE DU'LOQUE. But Lily ALlen is coming to Aus next week! So ha.

Damn. It's sold out. *swears*

Hang on. She's going to guest star on Neighbours?!

Why Lily? WHY?!

"gay, straight, black, white; MARRIAGE IS A CIVIL RIGHT" That'd make a super chorus chant.

400th post! Wow, I do know when to make my entrances.;)

P.s : I wonder how you'd react if your top-two from the list in your previous post are genderbenders.

if two people are in love and want to marry, then LET THEM. That first cartoon strip is absolutely spot on - people laugh at how narrow minded and ignorant people were back in the day as regards slavery and black rights, they fervently support figures like obama, martin luther king jr and nelson mandela for the what they represent when it comes to black rights, and yet these same people are still against gay marriage. What they sometimes don't see is that these role models represent the rights of EVERY minority and EVERY group who has previously been denied rights. I really hope that one day in the future, people will be laughing at how we ever managed to be so stupid as to deny marriage to two people in love. end of.

I forget when I posted that comment, but I fell asleep around 11 something last night and woke up at 8 something this morning.

So that was actually a pretty normal sleeping pattern.

So suck it.

But you are right. Why do I check your blog? I'll stop.
