Does anyone else find this photo of Miley Cyrus disturbing?
I'm a fan of Leibovitz, and I get that she's going for an older, more mature image, but all I see is someone who just got out of the shower and has a vampire tan.
Miley irritates me a fair bit, and yet when I was in the States I am ashamed to admit I spent a disgusting amount of time watching Hannah Montana, which I suppose just goes to show I'll watching anything on TV, or that I watch a lot of Disney in general. While her voice is decent enough, most of her fame stems from her father's name, which isn't even that big. She's just annoying (probably because she's a tween star.)
Point is, this isn't one of Leibovitz's best (or most flattering) shots, and she could have done a better job. The Vanity Fair article, though, which it was for, is actually quite amusing; the author seems to be about as skeptical about Miley as I am. (But don't even get me started on the weird and unnatural looking photo of her and her father.)

I like Annie's work, too, and thought this picture was pretty. However, all the backlash surrounding it seems kinda ridiculous. At first she's saying it was tasteful and now she's apologizing for it because it looks so racy, blah, blah, blah.
What I also find ridiculous is the fact that she's writing a stupid memoir. And she's all of 15! Oh, the life she's had. Whatever.
i cant stand her. she annoys me. i'm guessing it was hard replacing raven symone. i liked her a lot better than hannah/miley. and you mustve been hella bored when you were in the states. there are much better things on tv than hannah montana.
and i agree with celise. the memoir writing thing is way past lame.
I had a friend who asked me if she loked like a vampire. I agreed completely. I'll admit, I have nothing against her. I wish she hadn't spoiled her image with something just a little slutty. It's not worth it. (you lose a good bit of money that way.) Just saying. I dunno...
Celise: a 15 year old memoir is stupid, what on earth is she going to reflect on? Getting her period?
Draven: I wasn't that bored, just watched a lot of late night Disney, and they frequently showed Hannah Montana. Raven-Symone is so much better, love that show.
Miss Snow: it's kind of uncanny how much she looks like a vampire in these photos, isn't it? Maybe it's the flash they use...

Hey JAG, i havnt been on for a while!
and i too quite liked hannah montana show back in the day, and i admit to watching it even now when there is nothing else on austar :)
but yes, this picture is a little...disturbing. actually more than a little, completly. its seductive vampire/ mental asylum patient, not the best of looks.
and the picture with her dad is troubling aswell. call me a weirdo but is it not a tad...sexual?? and not to mention very uncomfortable looking.
if i had to pose with my dad like that i would feel uncomfortable too!

I think it is kind of disturbing. People keep on saying that she looks natural and whatnot - there was a blanket...but her hair looks stringy, she looks like she hasn't seen daylight in years, and I honestly don't understand what the point of this photo is.
Probably publicity.
Eww. Trying too hard. Don't like the photo at all.
It's different but seriously not worth all that fuss. But, *chuckles*, you're right, she DOES look like a vampire!
ps-SHe's writing a memoir?? ALREADY? I know she's famous and all but really, she's just 15 !!
I have a real hatred of the manufactured drivel that comes out of Disney these days, and this girl is a personification of all that I loathe. She's trying to grow up too quick, what with this photoshoot (where she looks like the Joker from Batman) and all her silly pics of her showing off her bra on Myspace. My sister is the same age and if she did that, I'd kill her.
OMG I love Miley or Hannah, I'm not sure. But I just hated this picture, I don't think it's pretty at all.
I don't care about her as a role model, because I'm 19 and she's not MY role model, but I guess she did a mistake. Too bad for her, anyway, she'll be okay.
I've always thought kids shouldn't work, that is all messed up, and always their parents' fault.
hi again,
i just wanted to know how you make hyperlinks on certain words?
Always, M.
I definitely found it disturbing, like another version of the Grudge kid.
Hey, thanks heaps!
Very helpful :)

It's almost scary how much i love it Twilight!
my friend J had started reading and told me it was the best book she had read but i refused to read a book about a vampire romance!(kill me now!) and then S read them and she convinced me to read it too, and thus, a love was created :)
R had thought the same until we made her read them.
Can't wait for you to finish New Moon & Eclipse! updates please!
Italy! yes, i really don't know what i'd do without R :)
Always, M

I actually don't like Leibovitz, or at least not all her pictures of celebrities, some of her earlier work was solid. I don't find these pictures that disturbing (Miley took worse ones of herself in her bikini). On top of that, what else can we expect from Annie? She likes to create drama, like the pictures she shot of Demi Moore nude and pregnant. If the shot isn't controversial I don't think Leibovitz wants to shoot it.
Good point. But the controversy over these photos is ridiculous for two main reasons.
1. It's not even that "racy" or "sexually provocative," and certainly not slutty. (It could have been more wholesome, I suppose, but it's not nude or anything.)
2. She participated in the photoshoot, approved the photos and is now saying she regrets them. How stupid is that?!
I just think it's not a very attractive photo.

Definitely creepy. Her lipstick looks smudged. Like blood sicked from some teenie bopper victim. And that strand of hair over her lip looks like a mustache. And she looks like a pale, icy corpse that just awoke under sheets in some morgue somewhere. And what's with seeing her ribs in her back?
I wouldn't be embarrassed about the "raciness" (and really, it's not that bad considering what I see around here) so much as the fact that she looking completely hideous.
